The U.S. government is looking for a 20 acre site with direct access to Highway 67 or 90. The site's exact use has not been explicitly disclosed in the
official Request For Proposals, but it will include a new 71,000 sf office building (presumably for the Border Patrol since the contact information is directed toward Texas/New Mexico Border Station Service Center.) The eventual selected site should be within the city limits, visible from one of the highways, and remote from housing. A development of this size will have significant effect on the Marfa economy. For more information, see the link above.

This is the new Customs and Border Protection Marfa Sector Headquarters. It is being built to accommodate growth. The current sector headquarters will presumably be leased out. This is a plus for Marfa since it was rumored at one time that the HQ would move to Alpine, which would be a terrible blow to the Marfa economy. Marge Hughes
Thanks Marge. Seems like a gigantic building for Marfa. Is it even possible to find a 20 acre site within Marfa city limits? near a highway? and remote from housing? Maybe an annex is in order to expand the town... An office of this size will surely add people to the area. I wonder how housing needs will respond.
