Many, many thanks to the fine folks of Marfa for welcoming us and our guests to your fine city for the 50th Anniversary of GIANT. The Good Lord was with us on the weather, making it almost chilly the night of the screening. On behalf of BIG BEND QUARTERLY magazine and WARNER BROS. I want to thank you for your kindness. Now maybe I can get some sleep!
Sincerely,
Kirby F. Warnock
And a PS.
I need to thank Krista and James at the Thunderbird for making Ms. Jane Withers and the Warner Bros. folks so welcome. Ms. Withers is up in years and needed a wheelchair for the weekend. Krista located a good one and had it waiting for her at the hotel. Also, thanks to the Hotel Paisano and staff for helping us run nearly 500 people through their lobby for the ticket pick up and the reception with Earl Holliman, Jane Withers and Bob Hinkle. Everyone was extremely helpful. I sincerely hope that the restaurants, stores and motels in Marfa enjoyed the uptick in business. All of the GIANT ticket holders were courteous and respectful, so I hope ya'll enjoyed their stay (and their spending habits.) It looks to me as if the weekend was a real win/win deal for everyone involved, including the library. Counting the income from the silent auction, we raised nearly $5,000 for the Marfa Public Library. (We've got another check to mail to them this weekend.)
I'll fire off a longer screed about the festivities in BIG BEND QUARTERLY, which should be on the stands around late August.
Oh, and a big thank you to Gilbert Montoya at the Paisano for helping us with just about anything that came up.
Ride to the sound of the guns, boys!!!
Kirby F. Warnock
