Too Late For Accomodations? Try eBay!

Area Man Makes Room for Art Pilgrims

So you waited 'till the last minute again? If you don't want to go the route I did when I first came to town for Chinati Open House weekend (i.e. sleeping in a tent at the trailer park), and you're not interested in making the trek back to Alpine each night, then gather up 7 of your closest friends, crack your wallets, and jump on eBay.

5 days and 4 nights can be yours for the starting bid of $1200.00. Apparently 10% of the winning bid will be donated to the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief, but it is against eBay policy to allow piggy-backing charitable causes to capitolistic schemes. (Although if you read between the lines, our brave seller won't let a little thing like rules get in the way of his benevolence.)

I'm going to keep my eye on this auction as it is a bellweather for... for something:

Here we have a comfortable 2 story GEODESIC DOME house in beautiful Marfa Texas. Sorry I had to relist this item a couple hours ago. Ebay has some sort of issue with c*h*a*r*i*t*y... Anyway, this lovely house is located on the corner of North Gonzalez and West 2nd street across the street from a beautiful little park. House is available from Thursday October 6 thru Monday October 10. See Yo la Tengo play for free @ the old Capri Hotel on Saturday night. See John Chamberlain and Tony Feher speak. Go to tens of parties and openings. Biggest art weekend of the year. All lodging (Hotels, Bed and Breakfasts, Motels etc.) is reserved within 100 miles. This may be your only chance to stay in town if you haven't made arrangements yet. 8 people maximum please... This is a fun house with a spacious gravel/cactus yard. Bidding starts @$1200, that's $300 per night... I'll be in town on open house weekend, so you can call me on my cell if any problems arise.

The dome house/residence is breathtaking inside and out!
The yard is spacious and soothing to sit in. It is an experience
to feel, somewhat like staring at a profound painting...yet you are
"living" INSIDE the painting. Believe me!
Winning bidders will NOT be dissapointed. It is by far, the most beautiful art-home in Marfa I have ever seen, and stayed in.
The owner of the fabulous dome-haus is very nice & wonderful to converse with.
I GIVE IT **** FOUR STARS!

i hope the dome owner is giving her a cut of the profits...$300 a night! it must be a mighty cool dome. i guess split 8 ways that isn't too bad.
not to be too sentimental, but i remember going to the open house when there were like 100 people there, including those (like me) who came from trinity university and university of texas to volunteer as guards in the artillery sheds. rooms reserved for 100 miles? sanderson, texas must be thrilled. how does marfa even begin to handle the influx? aren't there any who are concerned about how this affects the city?

"Honey, we is all concerned" sums it up perfectly. It's like, "Welcome to the discussion." Anyway, only 12 hours left on the auction and still no bidders. FYI
