Queens Nails Annex: Marfa Exhibition
As curator Mike Bianco states, "I imagine QNA must be a lot like what the Ferus Gallery was in L.A. in the late 1950s. It's a beehive for artistic activity and innovation". Queens Nails Annex was founded by artists Julio Morlaes and Brian Storts, and critic Liz Mullholand. Shortly after its inception, artist Bob Linder joined in collaboration and the gallery began premiering some of the most challenging exhibitions in the bay area.
The Waypoint is a curatorial project started by independent curator Mike Bianco in 2006. At the conceptual foundation of the project are notions of mobile exhibition, the renaissance of cartographic techniques in cultural production, and a dedication to promoting and exhibiting emerging cultural practices around the globe. The ambition of the Waypoint is to promote a discourse about contemporary cultural production beyond regional and national borders via a rhizomic curatorial structure that utilizes both nodular exhibitions and information/communication technology.
The opening is scheduled for October 5th from 9 to 11 p.m. Waypoint: Marfa is located at 208 S. Summer St (just behind the Thunderbird office). Gallery hours for Open House weekend will be 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
